The dangers we must know of when we are at the beach. This is horrible event in which a beatiful young kid looses her life while enjoying time. No parent should ever go through this. Our hearts go out to the family of Sloan Mattingly.
“The weight of the sand was too much,” Jason Mattingly said on ‘Good Morning America’ Thursday, remembering the final moments with his late daughter, Sloan Mattingly. Just listening to this father made me shed tears of my own. having a daughter myself I felt every emotion he was describing.
Sloan was digging for seashells in the sand with her brother Maddox, 9, during a family vacation to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea on Feb. 20 when the hole opened up, swallowing both of the siblings alive. Therese and Jason were right there and jumped into action, digging to save their children as the grains of sand engulfed them.
Recalled Jason: “It was kind of a blur, and it’s probably maybe my mind protecting myself, but it just happened so fast. In my mind I had her in my hands, but the weight of the sand was too much.”
This news brought us to think of the dunes at our very own South Padre Island. For those who visit the access parts of the beach, have you seen kids run up on the dunes? Is it possible for some to collapse? Collapse in a way that a tragedy like this can happen? I not only see kids on the dunes but vehicles who like to use their 4×4 and show off to the public. Maybe this is a wake up call. It is extremely heart breaking to hear aboout this tragedy. So young and enjoying life to end so quickly. Prayers go out to the family from our family. Please be careful out there.
